Marc has been an oil & gas lawyer for the last 25 years and for the last 10 years, he has been listed as one of the UK's leading oil & gas lawyers in Chambers. Marc is described in Chambers as being "a soild upstream lawyer with good project development skills", "a specialist in upstream exploration and production", "an expert in upstream M&A", "an expert in project finance", "extensive experience of advising energy majors and independent energy companies in upstream and downstream oil and gas", "has incredible technical knowledge".

Marc has undertaken oil & gas projects and M&A in Iraq for LUKOIL and Hillwood. He has also worked on many M&A deals in the Kurdistan region of Iraq including in relation to Gulf Keystone. In addition to his personal 
ranking, Marc was part of the team that listed Stephenson Harwood as one of the leading law firms advising on oil & gas transactions in Iraq.

Marc is listed in the current edition of Chambers Global as a leading foreign expert on energy law in Nigeria. During the last decade Marc has worked on more than 25 oil & gas deals in Africa, including the Cameroon FLNG project.

He is a prolific writer on oil & gas law and is the author or co-editor of the following books: Oil & Gas M&A (second ed. 2018), Oil & Gas Decommissioning (2016), Oil & Gas Contracts (Sweet & Maxwell, 2016), Oil & Gas in Africa (2015) and Upstream Oil & Gas (2012). He is the author of the chapter on gas sales agreements in International & Comparative Sale of Goods Law (2019). Marc is Chair of the University of Buckingham’s Centre for Extractive Energy Studies and regularly lectures to students taking the LL.M. in oil & gas law.

    Advising loan noteholders on a loan note and security issued by PA Resources, an international oil & gas company with asset in Equatorial Guinea and elsewhere in Africa.
     

    Advising bondholders of Seven Energy, a company with natural gas and power assets in Nigeria.
     

    Advising one of a Term B lender on its loan facility to First E&P for the development of OMLs 83 and 85 in deepwater Nigeria.
     

    Advising lenders on emergency finance and related security for First Oil Plc, a company with oil & gas assets in the UK North Sea.
     

    Advising on streaming and royalty financing agreements for a company with UK North Sea assets.
     

    Advising on the financial restructuring, including new loans and security, of Endeavour Energy UK Limited, a company with six producing fields in the UK North Sea.
     

    Advising on bonds issued by Xcite Energy Plc, the sole licensee of the Bentley heavy oil field in the UK North Sea.
